The Department of Surgery of the Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts

on Office-Based Laser Laryngeal Surgery to provide laryngologists
and general otolaryngologists with a state of the art update.
At the conclusion of this course the participant

- Appreciate how the historical perspective
of the development of various lasers influences current medical applications.
- Understand the principles of pulsed-angiolytic
lasers for the
treatment of upper aerodigestive tract mucosal disease based on the
experience in the larynx.
- Understand recent technological advances in
flexible laryngoscopy and current office-based techniques and applications.
- Understand recently developed applications of
the 585nm pulsed-dye laser, 532nm pulsed-KTP laser, and 2µm thulium
laser in laryngeal disease.
- Learn the necessary equipment, proper set-up,
and safety issues relevant to effective office-based patient management.

Presentations
will cover basic laser theory and development, laser safety,
advanced surgical techniques using a variety of lasers,
and clinical application of the most recently developed
laser technology.
Techniques
for performing endoscopic office-based surgery, including
appropriate use of the photoangiolytic lasers and cutting/ablating
lasers will be reviewed.
